PROOF THAT STATE DEPARTMENT WAS INVOLVED IN THE FILMING OF “THE INTERVIEW”, AND WHY NORTH KOREA IS PROBABLY NOT BEHIND THE SONY HACK

“It was revealed that the State Department had played a close role in the film, and particularly the decision to keep the final and extremely gruesome death scene. The emails between Sony’s CEO and a security consultant also suggest that the US government itself had supported the idea of using The Interview as propaganda against North Korea.”

VIDEO: GALLUP CEO FEARS HE MIGHT “SUDDENLY DISAPPEAR” FOR QUESTIONING U.S. JOBS DATA

“Yesterday, Jim Clifton, the Chairman and CEO of Gallup, an iconic U.S. company dating back to 1935, told CNBC that he was worried he might “suddenly disappear” and not make it home that evening if he disputed the accuracy of what the U.S. government is reporting as unemployed Americans.”

“The CNBC interview came one day after Clifton had penned a gutsy opinion piece on Gallup’s web site, defiantly calling the government’s 5.6 percent unemployment figure “The Big Lie” in the article’s headline.”

The British Army is Creating a Battalion of “Facebook Warriors”

“These Facebook warriors will be using similar atypical tactics, through non-violent means, to fight their adversary. This will mainly be achieved through “reflexive control,” an old Soviet tactic of spreading specifically curated information in order to get your opponent to react in the exact way you want them to. It’s a pretty tricky trick, and the British army will be doing just that with 1,500-person (or more) troop using Twitter and Facebook as a means to spread disinformation, real war truths, and “false flag” incidents as well as just general intelligence gathering. The 77th battalion will reportedly begin operations in April.”

A LYING-brigade.  With hackers.  I don’t like that much.

Brian Williams forced to admit he was NOT shot down in the Iraq War: NBC anchor apologizes after angry soldiers protest

  • On Friday Brian Williams claimed during a news item that he was aboard a helicopter that was hit during the 2003 invasion of Iraq
  • Soldiers who were present during the incident have denied that the NBC anchor was anywhere near the aircraft
  • In fact Williams arrived about an hour later on another helicopter after the other three had made an emergency landing
  • Williams has been quick to deny that he is attempting to ‘steal anyone’s valor’ and has blamed the ‘fog of memory over 12 years’ for his mistake

This Man Faces Life in Prison for … Rapping

“Until recently, Mr. Duncan spent eight months in jail on “gang conspiracy” charges arising from several shootings in San Diego from May 2013 to February 2014. Prosecutors admit he wasn’t at the scene of the crimes, and they have no evidence linking him to the shootings. Mr. Duncan, who has no criminal record, also says he had no knowledge of the crimes. But the district attorney charged him all the same because he raps about shootings.”

“That’s not only absurd; it’s a blatant violation of the First Amendment.”

Examining the Stasi, Seeing the NSA

Exclusive: For many years, the East German Stasi was viewed as the most totalitarian of intelligence services, relentlessly spying on its citizens during the Cold War. But the Stasi’s capabilities pale in comparison to what the NSA can now do, notes former U.S. intelligence analyst Elizabeth Murray.

“Now, in a strangely fitting yet ironic twist, Binney stood among fellow whistleblowers in the entrance foyer at the spy headquarters of what was once the world’s foremost totalitarian surveillance state — one of whose former operatives, Wolfgang Schmidt, noted wistfully that the current extent of mass surveillance of the domestic U.S. population would have been a “dream come true” for the Stasi.”

“They [the Stasi] figured out that there was a technique far more effective than force or violence to convince people to inform on one another — and that was to persuade them that doing so would be ‘good for them’ — i.e., a place for their child at university, career advancement, an apartment, access to Western luxuries, et cetera,” explained Simoncelli.”

“She observed that the Stasi Museum is “a potent warning from history,” adding that “the sense of loss of privacy in your own home, when phoning your family, and when talking to friends who may potentially be turned against you is corrosive to the human spirit.”

If they can imprison Barrett Brown, they can do it to anyone

“But there’s something deeper at stake in Brown’s wrongful arrest and conviction, and it should worry any American who cares about the freedom of press, the freedom of expression, and the freedom from unlawful prosecution or harassment at the hands of an increasingly paranoid and secretive state.”

Studies suggest that the more reality TV people watch—and I would posit that it’s all reality TV—the more difficult it becomes to distinguish between what is real and what is carefully crafted farce. Unfortunately, Americans have a voracious appetite for TV entertainment. On average, Americans spend five hours a day watching television.

Concerning reality TV, journalist Chris Weller explains:

Producers have become so good at their job of constructing a cohesive narrative, one that imitates life – albeit, dramatically so – that the narrative ends up compelling life to imitate it. This is an important distinction…. drama doesn’t emerge accidentally. It’s intentional. But not everyone knows that.

‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ author Harper Lee to publish ‘Go Set a Watchman’ — featuring ‘Scout’

Pulitzer Prize winner Harper Lee famously published just one book, “To Kill a Mockingbird” in 1960. Now, there will be another, “Go Set a Watchman,” which she finished in the 1950s and never published. The lost book, rediscovered last fall, will be released by publisher Harper July 14. It’s a sequel to “To Kill a Mockingbird”…
