France Under Fire for Chaos Caused by International Blockades

France is coming in for severe criticism for the traditional centuries-old French practice of “blocage” – using blockades as part of industrial action, which is seen as an impediment to the free movement of people and trade within the EU.

The ferry company DFDS has on Monday stopped running between Dover and Calais after striking seamen fired a distress rocket at one of its ferries. It is advising all passengers intending to travel between the UK and France to use the alternative north French port of Dunkirk.
